Disabling Card Payment Surcharges

Preparing for the Card Surcharge Changes: How to Disable Payment Surcharges in ImPOS.

From 1 October 2026, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and eftpos are introducing no-surcharge rules, meaning businesses will no longer be able to add a surcharge for card payments on these networks.

If your venue currently applies a card surcharge through ImPOS, you'll need to update your BackOffice settings before this date. This guide walks you through exactly how to do that.

Before you start: This guide covers changes within ImPOS only. You should also check with your payment service provider to confirm any changes needed on your terminal, and update any customer-facing signage or receipts that mention a card surcharge.

Step 1 — From Back Office, go to Payment Setup.

Step 2 — Select your card payment method.  Choose the card payment type used at your venue, such as ImposPay, Tyro, Zeller, or another configured card payment.

Step 3 — Remove the payment surcharge attached to the payment type.
Please untick below checkboxes:

  1. Set Surcharge List
  2. Set Fixed Surcharge

Note: The Payment Surcharge entry may not appear directly linked to a specific payment method in BackOffice. Check each relevant payment method individually to make sure its fixed surcharge has been cleared.

Step 4 — Save your changes Click Update to save.

Final Step: Restart Front Office and Test

If a surcharge still appears, check your other configured card payment methods to make sure the fixed surcharge has been cleared from each one.
